What do "Online Sessions" look like at The Maths Room NZ?

When The Maths Room NZ went online it was a very important aspect of the business to maintain the coaching, mentoring style and the ability to pay attention to each individual's needs. The solution was to invest in a write on touchscreen tablet/laptop with a clear screen sharing platform so it is just like writing in the student books in the same collaborative way as if they were here in person.

It's been set up so every student has their own book of pages in OneNote which means we can return to see what we have covered so far and refer back to previous learning. If students want a copy of their session then it can easily be emailed to them.

The advantage of the platform is also that I can demonstrate on free online software such as the Desmos graphing program, the statatistics software NZGrapher and even a fractions app which you can see below in the images. Students can also take control and use the app in the screen share window.

Here is just a very small sample of the learning done this past week by regular weekly Maths Room NZ students in school years 7 - 13.
